The higher grade aluminum results in a stronger, longer lasting sprocket and consequently less friction with reduced wear. While machining the sprocket versus stamping is more costly, it is a significant improvement in the concentricity of the gear. The machining process also allows a nicer fit to the sprocket hub in comparison to the cheaper stamping method.
